Happy Aloha Friday!
Buying a lot of fresh produce can be intimidating given its lifespan in the fridge. I don’t know about you, but most weeks I have found myself throwing away produce that I wasn’t able to get to.
Instead, I like to buy frozen fruits and vegetables. A lot of people worry that frozen fruits or vegetables aren’t as “healthy” as fresh options, but the short answer is that most of the time they actually are.
A lot of fresh fruits and vegetables are picked before they are ripe so that way once they get to you they are ready to eat. This can sometimes lead to a diminish in the nutritional content. Whereas with frozen produce, it is picked at peak ripeness and frozen right away, which will preserve more of the vitamins and minerals.
So which is better? Really they are equal and your choice should be dependent on what you are using it for. Frozen fruit is great for oatmeals or smoothies and frozen vegetables are great for casseroles and stir fries. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables when you want the texture or crunch of the food maintained.
You really can’t lose with either choice!
