Thanksgiving in Recovery

Happy Aloha Friday!

I don’t know about you, but with Thanksgiving happening last week, I'm officially in the holiday spirit! December can always be a stressful month with buying presents, preparing to have family in town, and trying to figure out how to make sure we continue prioritizing our recovery. Well I'm here to tell you that your recovery does not need to be perfect! Perfection often leads to unrealistic expectations and black and white thinking, which as we know, does not fuel recovery!

Like many of my long-time clients know, I believe that recovery is all about how you rebound from behaviors and the amount of time you spend reflecting on the function that those behaviors serve. So with that said, this month I am encouraging everyone to look at prioritizing self care, practicing self compassion, setting boundaries and challenging their eating disorder whenever possible.

In the coming weeks, I will be giving tips on how to deal with challenging family members, how to deal with the dreaded “diet talk” from friends/relatives, and other tips and tricks to make it through the holiday season without sacrificing your recovery . . . so stay tuned!
