Happy Aloha Friday and Happy April Fool’s Day!
We’re officially heading into spring and the excitement of summer is just around the corner! For the month of April, I really want to focus on the role that hunger and fullness levels play in recovery. This is a very individualized process, so we’re just going to go over some of the basics this month.
To start off, it’s important to point out that it is often very hard to tune into your hunger and fullness cues when you are recovering from an eating disorder. Why is this? Disordered behaviors and thoughts tend to disconnect us from what our body is trying to tell us. If your body picks up on the fact that its messages to you aren’t being followed, your body eventually will stop giving you consistent signals. It will take time and dedication to connect back to your body, but it is absolutely possible!
How can you help heal your connection with your body and build back that trust?
Feed yourself consistently throughout the day! This is why a meal plan is most often necessary and important for a while in recovery. You won’t need this meal plan forever because the ultimate goal is to get you in tune with your own hunger and fullness. Constant and consistent nourishment will help your body relax and trust that it will receive enough of what it needs.
Stay tuned throughout the month of April for more hunger and fullness tips to support your recovery!
